Title: Which one is better?
Jimbob 2705 - January 10, 2010 11:44 AM (GMT)
Hi Guys,
I am new to RC Cars and I have some questions:
What is a suitable starter car for under £200 with everything you need to get started?
Is there an advantage of using Nitro over using Electirc? Also, what does brushless mean?
I will be using the car for jumps, on dirt tracks, fields, etc.
I prefer the look of buggies but I don't mind truggies.
Thanks! :D
minivtec - January 10, 2010 01:00 PM (GMT)
Ok first off brushless is the type of motor used in a model ( basic explanation)
Nitro are probebly better for general bashing as they tend to run longer and cheaper to use ie you dont need lots of batterys
Nitros also jump bigger and tend to be stronger :D
Electric cars are easier to use however so it is a bit of a hard question ;)
If you go for nitro i have to recomend the hyper 7 they are a great buggy and cheap to repair
Rossy - January 10, 2010 01:44 PM (GMT)
As you said £200 i was thinking of a hyper 7 up untill the £200 max budget so how about on of these if you buy a combo package there is everything there for you to start but can you save £9 more

Stay with 1/8 scale
The problem is if you are thinking of buying New, then you may need to encrease your budget slightly. For £240 you will get all you need to start you off. Batteries, fuel, etc etc

I'm not to keen on the looks of that model, but I love the look of the Hyper 7! B)
Do they often come up for sale secondhand?

Yeah well you just got to look after nitro like it's your baby. You look after the engine and the engine will serve you well.

That is a great looking buggy! ;)

Right, I have done abit of a search and have found some cars which I like and are in a suitable price range. I would need the starter pack for them all.
HoBao Hyper 7 TQ Sport RTR:
http://www.modelsport.co.uk/?CallFunction=...on&ItemID=20870 HoBao Hyper 7 TQ 28 Sport RTR:
http://www.modelsport.co.uk/?CallFunction=...on&ItemID=24519 (It looks the same as the one above but I think it has a more powerful engine for an extra £10).
GV Models Rex-X Buggy RTR (Blue):
http://www.modelsport.co.uk/?CallFunction=...on&ItemID=20491 (Are these a good make?)
Kyosho DBX Buggy Readyset (White-Red):
http://www.modelsport.co.uk/?CallFunction=...on&ItemID=34319 (Really like the look of this one, but they don't seem to have any spare parts for them, It is also is a 1/10 instead of 1/8)
Kyosho DST Truggy Readyset (White):
http://www.modelsport.co.uk/?CallFunction=...on&ItemID=29559 (Quite like this Truggy, It is 1/10 again)
Kyosho Inferno MP7.5 Sports MK3 Readyset:
http://www.modelsport.co.uk/?CallFunction=...on&ItemID=29562Kyosho Inferno MP7.5 Sports MK4 Readyset (Black/Green):
http://www.modelsport.co.uk/?CallFunction=...on&ItemID=34410As you can see I have found quite alot! :P
Which would be the best out of the above would you say?
Also, what is the advantage of 1/8 over 1/10?
Nitroazza - January 10, 2010 03:10 PM (GMT)
yeah haboa and Kyosho are both brilliant models mate.
to be honest, the haboa hyper ST is a real strong model.
very fast too.
and with the choice of nitro, i think its very rewarding to bash with.
i dont know why it is, i own both electric and nitro models and for some reason the nitro seams more rewarding. plus it has engine noise broooom broooom :D
got to love nitro.

ill keep this short and sweet mate..
buy one of the hyper models, your be very pleased with it..
out of the hypers and the kyosho, i would chooce the hyper as the hyper i think is a bit stronger then the kyosho, also parts will be cheaper for the hypers..
its best to go with 1/8 if your ever thinking about going racing, plus your have a few more opitions with parts,

Is it worth spending the extra £10 one the one with the more powerful engine or will it be too powerful to handle for a newbie?
Nitroazza - January 10, 2010 03:32 PM (GMT)
nahhh it will be fine mate. you will soon get used to the power. :D
Rossy - January 10, 2010 03:47 PM (GMT)
Hear you go the difference between 21 and 28 engine size.
21 size engine you can race which mean obviously you can race them in your local club.
28 are usually just a big bashing engine not worth paying £10 more for.
difference between 1/8 and 1/10 im so sorry i didn't buy 1/8 when i started that 1/8 you can race and more parts available i.e. better choice of wheels and tyres and 1/10 is more of a bashing buggy again.
Honestly go for Hobao instead of kyosho because you will find a decent Hyper 7 on ebay maybe a full set up for around £150 with starter box and everything need to race and Hobao's parts are far cheaper and you can pick say a clutch up for a Hyper at virtually any model shop will probably have one in stock.

Do they come up for sale often? (I have put a wanted Ad up)
Is there any certain thing I should check for? (Damage, Problems, Etc)
Oh, and what sort of price am I looking at second hand?
Thanks
Rossy - January 10, 2010 03:52 PM (GMT)

What do you mean by a bashing buggy?
Nitroazza - January 10, 2010 05:04 PM (GMT)
if your buying a second hand model, just be carefull with the engines, could of been thrashed to feck, rusted inside due to no care of after run. etc.
general parts arent a big issue as they can be replaced relitively cheap
and the meaning of bashing is like to just race it around in carparks etc, anything apart from racing them. thats bashing mate

Is it hard to tell if an engine is damaged by looking at pictures?
Well, If I am honest I don't think I will be racing. If I do really like the sport I will probably buy a more dedicated setup and keep the one I am getting know for bashing! ;)

If it has a 28 size engine over a 21 size engine does this mean it will go faster? (Sorry if this is a really stupid question)
Can you use a 28 size engine for racing?
Nitroazza - January 10, 2010 05:18 PM (GMT)
erm its not really easy to tell about the condition of the engine to be honest. just look at how they generally keep it clean, that can show you how well its been looked after.
if it isnt really clean they you know they never really clean it, therefor it isnt looked after.
but with rust in the engine, you cannot tell unless you have it infront of you.
if you dont use your model for a long period of time and it hasnt has after run oil put in it, the engine will start to rust inside, which isnt good.
Nitroazza - January 10, 2010 05:20 PM (GMT)
and yes mate, the 28 engine will be faster than a 21 engine, but if intending to race, 21 engines are only allowed.
but you will find a 21 engine to be plenty fast enough mate.
Jimbob 2705 - January 10, 2010 05:31 PM (GMT)
I got one of them wrong (I put one on twice).
This one probably looks the best:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Hyper-7_W0QQitemZ230...37#ht_500wt_975
Nitroazza - January 10, 2010 05:43 PM (GMT)
yeah man thats not bad at all. i want it
Rossy - January 10, 2010 05:53 PM (GMT)
If im being strictly honest id buy the last one because for one thing i can see hes been using after run and air filter treatment and it's pretty clean.
But this also has alot of stuff with it
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/hyper-7_W0QQitemZ110...d5#ht_646wt_958
Nitroazza - January 10, 2010 06:11 PM (GMT)
yeah defo mate, definately worth the cash.

Out of the ones you linked to i'd say the last one in your first link post. The one in Birmingham.
Ask the guy where he's used it. He says only used on Astro...
Also be careful on Information received, some of it so far hasn't been quite right... Sorry guys.

Would £185 Posted be a fair price? What else would I need to get started?

Guys, I have been offered a HPI MT2 with shell, brand new underheadbrand, new top named glowplugs x2, 2 standard glowplugs, glowstarter and charger batteries for the controller and car, upgraded anadosed wheel nuts and upgraded anadosed shell clips for £180 Posted. Is this a good deal?
Would this be a suitable truggy for my needs?
I think they are discontinued so would spare parts be hard to get for them?
Rossy - January 10, 2010 09:46 PM (GMT)
All im going to say is anodised wheel nuts and body clips are like peanuts to buy any way so no big deal there but if you want strength and something you can buy parts for anywere buy a hyper any hyper just a hyper.

But what is the HPI MT2 like? Is the Hyper 7 in a different league?
Marc.. RC Addict! - January 10, 2010 10:27 PM (GMT)
first up mate, is the hpi mt2 the old version or is it the new version the HPI Nitro MT2 G3.0???
if its the old version and used 180 is an ok deal but only ok, if it the new version the deal is better..:)
you can buy the hpi mt2 g3.o for £230 new..
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HPI-Nitro-MT2-G3-0-R...=item25582e9e96have a look at the chissis in this listing mate it has great pictures..
Heres one of the hyper 7's,, have a look at the chassis pictures on this too..
http://www.modelsport.co.uk/?CallFunction=...on&ItemID=20870having a good look, will help you decided on what to get..
The hyper7 gets my vote,, im not going to say anything bad about the mt2 (new version) because it looks pretty good to me, but the hypers i hear nothing but good things about them really so for that reason it gets my vote
Jimbob 2705 - January 11, 2010 08:43 PM (GMT)
Well Guys, Unfortently I missed the one for £180 Buy It Now (Birmingham).
I have found this one though:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HoBao-Hyper-7-TQ-Spo...=item3efbd91bbeIs this one a clean model? If it is, how much should I bid roughly?
Is there any other models I should consider as I might be waiting a while for one to come up on Ebay? ;)
russmini - January 11, 2010 09:22 PM (GMT)
Your asking if it's Clean ??? Can you not see all the sh*t on it ???
Anyone that wants to sell something and can't be Arsed to Clean it, certainly deserves to be dealt with, with the same contempt.... No Thanks !
A Hyper will be anywhere from around £140, the better the condition, the more you'll have to pay.

Rossy - January 11, 2010 09:25 PM (GMT)
Looks a fair car doesn't come with as much as some of the other and it's been raced so im not sure carn't be worth more than £170 see what others think aswell.
