Title: mixing fuels
Nitroazza - January 16, 2010 11:43 PM (GMT)
hi guys, random question.
i have a litre of 20% fuel left, which is no longer needed, as my new t-maxx will be running on 25% fuel.
say for example, i have 2 half full bottles of 20% fuel, i can just add the two together, to make one full bottle.
but if i have one half full bottle of 20% fuel and one half fuel bottle of 25% can i mix these together? or will this upset the fuel percentage?
will it blend to make a full bottle of 25% fuel, or will it make it 45% fuel?
sorry if its hard to understand.
but am grateful for any advice

Are the two 20% bottles the same make of fuel?
Nitroazza - January 16, 2010 11:52 PM (GMT)
i think you have misread the question mate.
i did not ask about mixing two bottles of 20% fuel together. i have asked if i can mix 20% with 25% together, will it still be 25% and fine to use in my t-maxx.
but yes both the bottles will be the same make

You could add the two 20% together, but check the oil contents (they may be different). If they are I wouldn't mix them (my opinion)
I would not mix different % fuels. Or brands (again my opinion).
You could use the 20% to do initial run in? then change to the 25%.
I'm sure someone else can advise better?
Personally I would use the 25% all the way to run in as well.
If you know someone who uses the 20% fuel, give? sell it to them?
Help pay for the next bottle of 25%?
Again this is my opinion.Just what I would do.

I'm partially drunk... I don't read things in full I skim over it and assume what my eyes have seen is what my brain has interpreted
It won't make 25% as you're also increasing the volume of liquid...
For example mixing two bottles of 40% whiskey wouldn't make it 80%, it would remain at 40% just a larger volume..
After thinking it through (albeit slightly drunk) I see no reason why you couldn't mix the two fuels together as long as you tune the carb to accept the new mix.
Peace

thanks for your opinions mate, very much apreciated.
my t-maxx is second hand, already been ran in, originally runs on 25% fuel, but i have half a bottle of 20% going to waste,
was wondering if i can mix them together so that the other litre of 20% doesnt go to waste
Rossy - January 16, 2010 11:58 PM (GMT)
I was going to ask the same question at one point and i though why wouldn't it work if its the same make? But there again i just used the rest to clean it in the end and also good drain cleaner.

so to make it easier on people to read
can i mix a litre of 20% fuel with a litre of 25% fuel together?
willl it make 2litres of 25% fuel?
or will it make 45%? as im mixing 20% with 25%..
Rossy - January 17, 2010 12:03 AM (GMT)
Won't it just make it slightly less than 25% like 22%. carn't see it being more than 25%.
Nitroazza - January 17, 2010 12:05 AM (GMT)
hmm i dont know, thats why im asking other people.
but im thinking the way your thinking though.
but i need to know for sure that it will stay at 25%, i dont want to risk my t-maxx engine. :D

I've already told you what is what.
I suggest you listen to me.
Nitroazza - January 17, 2010 12:06 AM (GMT)
i am listening mate, but you said its your opinion. i cant go by opinions, i need facts, to know that its still fine.
im not risking running my engine lean and damaging it all because of somneones opinion.
but your messages are apreciated

I know i'm correct, i'm NEVER wrong

As it's already run in. I would not mix the fuels.
You would end up with an inbetween mix? 22.5%? (I think)
I'm not into chemistry.
I would run a couple of gentle tanks,of your chosen brand of 25% fuel through it then tune.
Hope this helps.

I reckon it would do what Rossy said.

iv all ways been told the fuel thats been used to run the engine is the fuel that shd be used for entire life of the engine mixing nitro content cud change the content very slighty but notmuch in my opinion use 20% at most gives the performance but looks after the engine as well
Nitroazza - January 17, 2010 11:57 AM (GMT)
yeah mate.
well my t-maxx from new has ran on 25% fuel, so i will just stick to that.
mattft86 - January 17, 2010 03:14 PM (GMT)
just keep the 20% to clean your air filter out you cannot mix 20% with 25%

not true i ran all my cars in on 10% but now use byrons 25% if you run your car in on say at 25% you cant go down to say 10%
wolfie1 - January 17, 2010 03:51 PM (GMT)
if you add together the percentages of fuel and divided it by the number of bottles it will give you the percentage of nitro 20+25=45,45 divided by 2= 22.5% nitro. if ur not racing i would mix it but like with 5 litres of fuel :)
Nitroazza - January 17, 2010 03:51 PM (GMT)
bart408bbb - January 17, 2010 04:49 PM (GMT)
It would make a full bottle of 22.5% nirto

Are the fuels the same make? Personally I wouldnt mix different makes of fuel.
If they are, and you mix 25% with 20% you will get 22.5%. If you mix 1 litre with 1 litre per se.
Is your T_maxx new? if so run it in on the 20%.
