Title: t-maxx help

Nitroazza - January 26, 2010 06:13 PM (GMT)
hi guys, right got my t-maxx 2,5 today.

one problem i have is when its in reverse gear, it reverses fine, revs perfectly, but when its in forwards gear, it hardly revs, i give it full throttle and get hardly any revs from it and it hardly moves.

reverse is perfect, but forwards isnt.

can anyone please help.

If you could help us guys we would be very greatfull,

This has got me stumped big time..

I sold azza the T-MAXX (for my old man) and i feel guilty now, but i do not have the knowledge about this problem..

please help..

Rossy - January 26, 2010 06:38 PM (GMT)
Ah ha so you got it now, the only one i have ever fixed is a standard t-maxx with no reverse so i really don't know what the setup looks like for reverse does it use different spur gears for forward and reverse? Fail in that can't you just got in reverse everywhere.

ianski68 - January 26, 2010 06:39 PM (GMT)
very odd because ether forward or backwards the engine reving is nothing to do with the direction. if it runs one way then it should the other...

if you put it on blocks will it rev up and spin the wheels?

Nitroazza - January 26, 2010 07:24 PM (GMT)
yeah it revs a little. like i said, need to give it full throttle to get a little rev and speed.
its totally confused me, especially when reverse runs perfectly

Rossy - January 26, 2010 07:25 PM (GMT)
Not to sure what the heck that is then could it be the pinions in the diff somewhere.

russmini - January 26, 2010 07:49 PM (GMT)
An engagement issue...

Nitroazza - January 26, 2010 08:43 PM (GMT)
could be russ. thanks.

any ideas of how to fix it?

:D

minivtec - January 26, 2010 08:50 PM (GMT)
I have found a large hammer works well :joker: :joker: :joker:

i am just looking at some diagrams to see if i can work it out

Rossy - January 26, 2010 09:01 PM (GMT)
I been looking for ages now and only things i can think of is there's a plastic pinion in the gearbox which is worn.

gazag - January 26, 2010 09:09 PM (GMT)
i have seen this twice

its the small idle gear inside the gearbox. the plastic has swolen and it is jamed.

unfortunetly this means a full gearbox strip and youll have replace part numbers:-
TRX-4995
TRX-5183
TRX-5395
possiably the gear box casing aswell

my advice is to get a forward oinly conversion (TRX-5193X) and get rid of one hell of alot of problems the older 2.5 gearbox had.

Rossy - January 26, 2010 09:17 PM (GMT)
My mates new one only has forward why have reverse with nitro, Simple just dont get in the situation you need to reverse out of

Hope you fix it soon mate so you can take it out again im sure you will really enjoy it when it runs fine. Good luck

Don't knock it if you haven't tried it. Reverse rules. You need to bash harder.

Nitroazza - January 26, 2010 09:42 PM (GMT)
yeah might just get the forward only conversion then.
but that doesnt explain why it dont rev in forwards, it should still rev shouldnt it?

gazag - January 26, 2010 09:51 PM (GMT)
no, if it is what i suspect the ger for the forward is only engaged while its in forward gear and since its swolen is very tight so it wont rev up were in reverse its not engaged so the gearbox is free and it can rev up ;)

Nitroazza - January 26, 2010 09:52 PM (GMT)
ahhh that helps loads, thanks very much.

ianski68 - January 26, 2010 10:50 PM (GMT)
strip the box apart, its easy peasy....... :D

done it several times to change the lay shaft and fork

Ritchie - January 26, 2010 10:52 PM (GMT)
From what I understand, the engine itself won't rev when its set in forward?
Just found this in the owners manual:

• Red “Sensor” (LED on the optidrive unit)
a ) Sensor, throttle or shift
circuit is broken. Possible
disconnected or broken sensor,
throttle or shift wires. Possible
damaged sensor.
b ) Receiver has lost signal from the
transmitter, the OptiDrive has
entered fail-safe (throttle and shift
servos become unresponsive).

So I'm thinking from this if its detected a fault selecting forward its shutting the throttle off to protect your gears (the throttle comes through the optidrive unit so it can do this). Check the throttle servo, if its not moving, the optidrive's in fail safe (should also see the "sensor" LED lit red on the optidrive...). Try moving the shift servo manually into forward, see if that helps?

The manual is here and that section's on the side of page 15

Nitroazza - January 26, 2010 10:57 PM (GMT)
yeah but my model doesnt have the red LED, its only the 2.5 t-maxx,

and ianski, how to you remove it from the model?

Ritchie - January 26, 2010 11:22 PM (GMT)
If the engine doesn't rev up at all, how is that gonna be a swollen gear? If it was seized, surely the engine would at least rev until it was straining against the clutch?

My money's still on the optidrive, it controls the shifting and has the ability to STOP THE THROTTLE WORKING when it's not happy. That is the 2.5 manual so dunno what's going on with your LED's.
At least check to see if the the throttle servo moves before stripping the box out, its a 2 second job!! If it isn't moving when you squeeze the trigger its just an electrical issue with the optidrive. Blip the throttle linkage by hand if you want to confirm it. Also try moving the shift rod into forward by hand and see if that helps??

ianski68 - January 26, 2010 11:30 PM (GMT)
Ritchie, it does not have an Opti drive system fitted dude.

disconnect all the linkages and then 6 screws underneath and it lifts straight out of the top.

do you have diagrams and exploded views?

Nitroazza - January 26, 2010 11:36 PM (GMT)
yeah mine doesnt have optidrive mate, and no LEDs to show gear switching, like the 2,5r does.

and yes the servo moves fine, i moved the linkage by hand, it changes gear but still no decent forwards drive,

its got to be the gears inside.
i think.

and ritchie, it does rev slightly, just not too well, not welll enough to make it move alot.

Oh right, that's different. Does it sound like its straining on the clutch?

it cant be straining on the clutch because its fine in reverse, it has to be an issue with the forward gears in the box.....

strip it out and open it up. ;)

Got to be this in some way or another..
cheers guys

Talked to my old man and he said he had the truck running fine in forwards but never thought to check reverse.. but your poblem is the other way around :( when he sent you the truck he gave you a different handset but as we talkied about on msn dont think its down to that..

maybe gazag is right, its defo a cheaper opition taking the gear box apart and checking the gears rather then buying a new gear box..

But it will P**s us right off if its not down to the gear box and you get another one:(

were get this sorted..

ianski68 - January 27, 2010 12:15 AM (GMT)
Have you checked to make sure the brake is not jaming on in forward?

Nitroazza - January 27, 2010 12:16 AM (GMT)
yeahh, well i have just looked over the model, where abouts are the six screws ianski, guna take it off now, and how do i remove the two prop shafts that are underneith from the gearbox?

Rossy - January 27, 2010 12:21 AM (GMT)
I'M sure you will get this sorted soon, if ianski doest reply I think there just little grub screws to get the driveshafts of the end of the gearbox same on most rc's

Marc.. RC Addict! - January 27, 2010 12:33 AM (GMT)
hopefully being sorted over msn, only time well tell

big thanks to ianski and all you other guys for helping

Nitroazza - January 27, 2010 04:42 AM (GMT)
right guys, got gearbox off, yeah you were right, forward gear is struggling to engage fully, i checked the sync of it but in half, how it would engaged, the gears dont mesh together properly.

so hmm, new gearbox i think, but one without reverse, i have removed the gear servo so that its all ready for a forward only gearbox.

thanks very much for everyones help, very much apreciated.

big thumbs up to ianski and marc, helped me alot on msn.

open it up and look at what gears are damaged and replace them. it is also possible that it may not be a damaged gear but something else that has come adrift inside. Have a look first. Remember what i said about if you are not happy to open it up, i will do it for you.

Keep going

Nitroazza - January 27, 2010 11:32 AM (GMT)
thanks mate, have had it open, gears are a mess inside.

azza you got it out, nicely done mate :banana_jump:

nice one ian great help mate  new gears is defo a cheaper then a whole new gear box, plus your still have reverse:)

Nitroazza - January 27, 2010 05:21 PM (GMT)
fixed it guys, managed to make the gear selector stay in position, runs nicely now, just needs a good tune. its back to factory settings.

im going to get a new forward only gearbox when i have a bit more cash.

thanks for everyones help

ianski68 - January 27, 2010 05:25 PM (GMT)
so is your gearbox working properly now, i mean you have 2 forward speeds and a reverse, or have you bodged it just to get it running ?
well done for sticking with it mate

:banana_jump: superb mate nicely done B) bet your well chuffed...

Nitroazza - January 27, 2010 06:13 PM (GMT)
yeah ian, i just bodged it to run in forwards only, i have removed the reverse gear servo too. i just pushed the gear select rod in so that it has good contact. then epoxied it still. will do for now.

and marc, hell yeah im happy.

me and my misus went out on my models earlier, she drove the tt01, i squished loads of times haha. i tested the models before, and they run together nicely.

and now its running fine, i bought some chrome spray paint earlier and sprayed the rimz and the front and rear bumpers, as they were going blue slightly. so now nice and chrome. :D

ianski68 - January 27, 2010 06:25 PM (GMT)
Its good to see you are happy, will deffo be worth sorting out properly in the future.

Rossy - January 27, 2010 06:38 PM (GMT)
Nice to hear your happy with it, Are you sure your misses wont use the riot. Would be good fun with to nitro's
