Title: I got silly and buggered it.

I have been charging my virus up and down my road and it has been running relly well.
This morning i took it out because there was alot of frost on the road and it was awsome.
However i decided to mess with it in our back garden which is huge. I hit something in the garden and it reved its nutts off. I later found i have warn off the main gear ( which was plastic). GUTTED.

I have spoken to the model shop and they will fit me a new gear ( i can't do it myself to inexperianced).

I hope the new gear they fit will be a metal one.

What do you guys think.

Bad luck mate. i would deffo loose the plastice main gear for a steel one. But i would suggest you have a go your self at replacing it. its like all things if you dont have a go you will never learn. But if you really are not confident and you have the money to burn then Take iut to the model shop. You will have to specify that you want a metal replacement gear, otherwise they will replace it with the standard plastic gear. :cruising: :cruising:

If i add a metal gear would that mean i will find a new weak poin? such as the drive shaft?

ianski68 - January 30, 2010 04:10 PM (GMT)
No, its one of those must do upgrade. runing a normal one even on loose gravel can cause it to schreed through getting bits of gravel caught in it.

This was my main gear after 2 weeks. i took it to a track and then this!

Replaced it with a metal gear and still have it now, over a year later and well used.

get a metal gear it'll last much longer and as said try to fit it yourself just keep looking at the manual you'll be fine. If you don't try something then you'll never get better at it. ;) and if you need help then were here to help you :D

and nothing else should break instead, though suppose all cars are different and you'll only see by trying. but it should be fine

spur gears are easy enough to replace mate.

ian was right, doing it yourself will give you practice. and just follow diagrams maybe in your manual or online PDF's. they helped me alot with my t-maxx gearbox, well it was ianski that helped. good lad.

but defo suggest a steel one mate.

Okay, I have fitted my new main gear. It didn't take very long and wasn't to difficult. Its all back to gether but when you spin the wheels there is a grinding noise coming from the gear at the end of the engine. i have started it up and it did run and the noise got worse.

Any Ideas?

I am worried i have done something bad and expensive.

The crash you had has probably made the engine shift position. It sounds like you need to re-mesh the engine with the main drive gear

I have moved the engine and everything sounds a bit better, i haven't run it yet though. I take it having two metal gears will be a bit noisier. would it help putting grease on the two gears?

I have noticed that one of the teeth on the clutch bell (ithink thats what its called) has been slightly broken as if a stone got caught on it somewhere. will this have to be replaced too?

ianski68 - February 1, 2010 08:00 PM (GMT)
yes you will deffo need to replace the bell

and yes it will sound a little more claterry as its metal on metal..

Thanks for your help ianski. I have noticed that after loosening the engine a stone fell out. I will take it for a spin tomorrow and it should be a bit better.

I will change the bell end tomorrow too.

Is there a way to stop stones coming in, or is this something rc'ers have to put up with?

Its just one of those things
