Title: .21 Race specced engine?

Tony20VTurbo - March 5, 2010 09:41 AM (GMT)
hi all

well I am looking to get into racing, but I have only just discovered that the maximum size you can run is a .21 engine

My Caster Racing has a .25 engine fitted! doh!!

so once I get to grips with the car a bit, I will be moving to a .21 engine

However I will want to invest quite a bit into the engine, to get the most out of the car

I was looking at this:

http://www.apexmodels.com/gbu0-prodshow/MK2-215T.html

What is the actual difference between a normal spec and race spec? I.e. internals etc or what?

if anyone can help, thanks

EDIT: or this baby :D :

been speaking with apexmodels, and they recommend the Go Engines 21 range

just as good as the £300 engine too

http://www.apexmodels.com/gbu0-catshow/GoE...eng-21Size.html

cheaper as well, and very reliable, along with putting out exactly the same amount of power, with low down grunt. Ideal for the track I am looking to race at, quite twisty, so need that acceleration out of the corners and over jumps

option parts I am buying is a set of Ferodo brakes too (run these on my car and they are awesome!)

@tony20vturbo - are you going to crystal palace tomorrow?

Hi Mate,

I use the GO 7pt in a Caster, and is a great engine, Others are using the Alpha engine and are rating it quite high, would look at these 2 engines along with the others, both relatively cheap but have great power.

i have heard some very good things about the new range of GO Race engines. they certainly have sorted out there old issues. I have 2 GO 21 race engines in my buggies.

thanks guys

I am just getting used to the ropes first, and this Sunday will be great for doing so at MK with all of you

Once that is done, then I will be looking to purchase a Go 21 engine and start competing in Slough and the BRCA events

I was on the racechat forums earlier and they highly rated the engines very well and were very reliable despite getting hammered in competitions, but could normally handle a whole championship on just one engine alone - very very impressive indeed

Apparently they are not fantastic top end for long tracks, but the tracks I have seen so far are quite twisty, and bottem end torque is key, which is one of the Go engines strong points

good value and faster than my 25 engine!

already specced about £200 of stuff for my Caster, engine, exhaust, ferodo brakes, lightweight wheels etc! lol!

Racing at Frankley im using a 7mm restrictor in the 7pt, this keeps up with all but the top boys, not many cars go past on the straight so top end isn't a problem, even the top engines on a long straight don,t leave it standing, in reality the straight isn't really the major issue as better driving on all other parts of the track saves more time per lap than you'd gain on a straight, this is where i am trying to improve my driving, consistancy even going slower speeds and not crashing improves lap times and qualifying places. If I had the best engine and the most power this would probably work against me with my skills
