Title: Problem
madbull2002 - April 24, 2010 08:04 AM (GMT)
Ive just recieved my hotbodies lightning yesterday and i was performing the static break-in so the wheels were off the ground but they were spinning.
Is this normal.
If not can anyone give me some pointers.

spinning slowly and occasionally stopping is fine, you could back off the idle screw on carb and re-adjust trim on transmitter, that will bring down the rpm a bit

yeh this is normal mate, as matt said the idle screw would just need a quick adjustment, as with all nitro models, when running the engine in, after time the engine piston starts to become easier to move up & down inside the engine, which in turn makes the wheels turn or your model creep forward, once your run in or before if you wish, center the throttle trim on the handset then, just adjust the carb idle screw to lower the revs
Good lucky buddy

some times it may be a bit of bad luck and the spring coud of snapped on you cluth. To test it is to start your car up and when the wheels start to spin put it on the ground and if it stalls the engine that means you will have to replace the cluth spring

This aint always true mate! when the clutch spring snaps your shoe might just rattle around rather than actually jamming against the bell so it wouldn't actually stall at all!

Mate take it of the box and sit it on the deck
run it around to run it in. Much better

:-O You actually run it in at the rich stage on the floor?!?! Big problems?! :o lol.

i always run mine on the deck. Why would you want to run an engine in with the car off the floor! :cruising: :cruising:

Why Big Problems?

because the piston is hard enough to move in the lining anyway! just to put weight against the clutch puts more pressure on the piston, and conrod, and engine.
I always run 2-4 tanks through when its really rich, on idle. takes about 4 minuites.
Lean it up a turn then run it in MASSIVE figure of 8's in a field then slowly lean the engine more and more before its running to the standard i want. all in all about a quatre - half a gallon (US gallon) of fuel to run the engine in. Lovely compression, and lovely life span :D
Thought thats how most racers did it? o0

Snap,
Some people do the 1st ever tank with the engine off the ground but after that you need to run the model on the ground, because off the ground it will not have any load..

load is good? o0
saying that, part of the problem is just me being too lazy to lift it off the bloody starter box :P

You have a hole in your fuel tank dude...

I've always run 1st tank through on idle off ground, wheels will turn slowly but that way less load no clutch drag
Sprakie2008 - September 2, 2010 05:24 PM (GMT)
Ha! Wouldn't suprise me! Its just about the only thing that i havn't replaced on it since i bought it! :P
butttt:
its just cause its so rich when i run it in, waste of fuel but well lubricated! :D
and yeah, i'm with you on this one YZ, although i like a few more through it first!
