hey there im new to this game got myself a scumacher manic 36 ........... heres the noob bit ............... it wont start checked the glowplugs engine primed im jus assuming the drill i got aint fast enuff can ne1 suggest a rotostart to get or a drill for cheap or if theres a possibility that i cood apply a pull start thanks for help in advance (sorry for no grammar)

ME:MTC - June 30, 2010 08:41 PM (GMT)
hi there when the engine is new id recommend using 2 glowstarts as its easyer i use the hpi roto start turns them over with ease when you first run it in turn the idle up a bit make it easyer to start
the engine sound butiful when running

lozza1122 - June 30, 2010 08:46 PM (GMT)
hi there thanks for your reply, have done all the above and there are so many HPI roto starts to choose from, do they come with a battery will it be right speed again thanks for all help...

Hi mate welcome to the site.

First off, nice model the manic 36 looks like a beast :)

Unfortunately i dont think you can have or get a pull cored starter for the manics twin cylinder 36 engine, so the roto starter would be the best option..

Heres a HPI roto starter unit for £24 posted,

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Hpi-savage-roto-star...=item2a0835216c

with all roto starters, unless buying a second hand one they dont normally come with a battery pack, so you will need one of those too, but does this mean you also need a charger or do you have one allready?

Or you could just buy this cordless drill, when buying the manic 36 in a combo pack, from modelsport.co.uk , they sell the manics with this, so it will work, and this would be the cheapest option as you would not need to buy a battery as well..

along witht the roto start you suggested

hopefully this baby will start im gettin quite impatient

No probs mate and your not being a pain, asking questions, its partly what were here for.

Cool so you ordered the roto starter and not all you need is a battery and charger.. The cheapest way to do it would be like this:

A Ansmann mains charger (slow charger) £5.99

http://modelsport.co.uk/index.php?CallFunc...on&ItemID=28866

Heres a charger being sold buy timbo from this site, if you did win this, he might even be able to sort you out a battery, tim is a class guy and will help if he can..

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Ansmann-powerjack-de...=item19bd875ae3

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/101930-HPI-Plazma-7-...=item4aa29abf69

HPI Plazma 7.2V 1800mAh Nimh Battery £10 posted.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/101930-HPI-Plazma-7-...=item4aa29abf69

But, i think the cheapest way would not be the best way, as that cheap slow charger takes hours to charge even a small mah battery.

If i was you mate, to keep it cheap but also to make life easier, with faster charging, i would say get one of these, or something even better if price is not an issue.

This Fusion 5ive Delta Peak Dual Output Charger lets you fast charge 1 or 2 batteries at once, and is a reasonable price, £23.

http://modelsport.co.uk/index.php?CallFunc...on&ItemID=32524

And for a battery, yup you can use any 7.2v 6 cell battery, (with tamiya white block connector)
The bigger the mah rating the longer the battery will last/run for.

Hope this helps mate

lozza1122 - July 2, 2010 03:20 PM (GMT)
its model technics quickfire 16 i think thats 16% i guess shes guzzleing it as its rich which im gonna do for the nxt couple of tanks then im gonna lean her out a bit and give it a run in some space instead of jus up and down the street any suggestions as how to work it in and wateva greatly thankful

best suggestion mate, scrap model technics, junk fuel, will do more damage than good to your engine, low oil percentage, so will make your engine run hotter and more wear.
optifuel 20 and 25% is good, ive used both, and byron race gen2 is great, best available.

glad to hear she started mate.

ME:MTC - July 2, 2010 06:13 PM (GMT)
no it has more oil

Marc.. RC Addict! - July 2, 2010 06:57 PM (GMT)
Hi mate

Cool glad to hear you got it started.. :)

Before i continue, i just want to double check one thing, did you get this model from new? and how many times have you started the model up? and have you down the engine run-in procedure, following the models instruction manual?

If you have not managed to run-in the engine yet, that is the first thing that needs to be done, running in the engine should be done slowly, (different brands say to do different things depending on the model and engine) It should tell you in you manuel how to run in your engine, but if not, heres a few simple rules to follow.

On the 1st tank of fuel, let your model tick-over apply just enough throttle to keep your engine running, or if you really want to, only drive it at around 4mph max speed, on the 2nd tank of fuel you can apply a tiny bit more throttle, and only apply the throttle for a few seconds at a time and then release. Om the 3rd tank do the same again, but yet again applying a little more throttle and few a second or two longer, do this every tank of fuel and increase the amount of throttle and how long you hold the throttle down after every tank of fuel, after the 5th or 6th tank of fuel you will able to hit high speeds safely..

But please note, the way i said run-in the engine, is an example mate, it is only one way of doing it, some people do it differently but if you have the manual that should give you some usfull tips.

I Must admit, as azza said model technics fuel is not a great fuel, as silly as it sounds a good brand of fuel really helps with the running and performance of your engine, but more importantly then that, if your using 16% nitro fuel the % is a bit low for the engine your running, you would benifit quite a bit from using 20 or 25% nitro fuel.

To help get your engine started mate, open your idel screw abit so your carb opens up a bit more, dont worry if your model start to move forwards a bit, you can adjust it to the correct setting once your engine is running nice, give your HSP (high-speed-needle) a 1/16 of a turn clockwise to lean your mixture a tiny bit. Also leave your glow starts in the engine heads for a few minutes, it will help, but dont leave then in there too long, or they could get too hot.

Also, as your engine runs off 2 plugs, i think this means your going to have to keep an eye on them a bit more, because if just one of them stops working properly, then your engine could start cutting out, (new engine to me, so im half guessing on that part). So get a few in spare mate..

I hope this helps a bit mate, let us know how you get on.

right ill answer in order as youve asked, Yes i did buy from new bout 3-4 times started her closed the high speed and opened it 4 full turns so its runnin rich and havnt been newhere near half throttle there not enuff space, but jus gettin her start and slow revs is wot ive been doin up until now and i hav been following the manual and lookin up different suggestions from u guys and watchin various tuning vids, so i spose im in the middle of running in my engine slowly. my thr on rc set to 50% now aswell to make sure i do it slowly (as in thr pwr wont go above 50% even iff i fully press trigger.....

didnt drive it at all on first tank hav driven it a touch on the 4th start yesterday today will agen be a little more use so i think im already on the right tracks there so as not to screw the engine

an yeah theres alot of different methods ive heard ur one seem the most effiecient way so far neways even if its full of suspence to go faster :P will look to ordering a gallo of 20-25% fuel aswell if its gonna help maintain engine spendin money now will be alot better off then payin for a new engine for her... (looked it up £200 plus VAT :S:S)

as for the glows i check them both before i start engine i try to make sure that the pistons are both half way thru a revolution and i check on individual glostarts (one specific for each plug) and i will get spares cos there are obviuosly gonna be times where we all need a glow plug at some point aswell!

but anywho new day new dollar gonna see if my bro wants to check the beastess out and help me run her in aswell agen guys coodnt hav got this far without ur help keep it comin if u feel im doin summin rong (apart from my spellin of course :P)

thanks alot guys
