Title: Flywheel jamming?
Sprakie2008 - August 14, 2010 04:18 PM (GMT)
Hey guys, on my losi 8ight, it has a .21 Picco engine. It set up for a H5S starter box. Normally when i try to start it up the flywheel tends to jam solid, and i need to use a small screwdriver to push it a loosen it up again.
This only normally happens when the batteries are fairly low, but the batteries are some old ones a friend gave me, and they last 2-3 starts before this problem occurs.
Should the flywheel jam or is it actually a problem with the engine?
Got one thing sorted on my expensive paper weight, i mean buggy, and then this problem starts to annoy me again :(

If it's jamming on your box when you go start it but you can then move the flywheel with a screw driver then i would go with it being tight (high compression).
I snapped a starter box belt trying to start my losi truggy and that was a picco.

Yeahh, basically, i use the screwdriver to un jam the fly wheel?
But is high compression a good thing or a fault? lol..
Cheers!

thats good if you have good compression, it maybe that your engine is a little to tight for the starter box motors. (what spec) what you can do is just lossen your glow plug a so as when turning over it will release a bit of compression, allowing the starter to turn it over. once it fires up you can just tighten the plug up whilst it running. when the engine is hot you will find you will not need to do this.
eventually your engine will lossen up. :cruising:

My starter box has 2x 775 high power motors, ideal for starting new engines..

Just been down to my mates house, hes charged my batteries for me but he said its fine, its just vcause its only had a gallon of fuel through it, if that so its still pretty tight. I'm not sure on the specs tbh, its a H5S, one that he gave me so...
He has ordered me a new 12v cell pack that works alot better though! :-)
Thanks for your help though mate! :-)

you can still lossen the plug if you need to, will not hurt it at all, especially for tyhe first start up. once warm the cylinder expands and the piston will move more freely.

Thanks alot mate, i'll have to try that trick! never heard of it before :-)

its quite often done when breaking a new engine in, And some times it really is needed. :D

A good starter box is vital when you have a half decent new engine. The only Starter box's i'd recommend are SMD, blue or orange and the King Box.
