Title: Throttle Jamming open?!
Description: :'(
Sprakie2008 - August 24, 2010 07:54 PM (GMT)
Hey guys! just wanted your oppinion/help.
i took my car out to a BMX track today, just for a bit of a spin. It had been raining all day and there were some puddles on the track, but i thought nitro cars were supposed to be fairly waterproof? so i took my car out anyway, and avoiding alot of the puddles, but there were still some small ones splasshing inside my car.
I took over a jump and then my car just ran off at full throttle! luckily there was a hedge that it crashed into first, but then pushed the thing down but flipped upsidedown in a ditch, so i shoved my foot in the flywheel and burnt some lovely holes in my shoe!
i was wondering though, is my car knackered now? or is it just that the electrics got wet? every time i turn the car on, the servo just opens up the throttle to the point it starts pulling the servo tray round with it.
What you make of the situation? will it just dry out and work again or?

doesnt sound too good does it...
im a complete noob but i will suggest that maybe you soaked your failsafe or something and it has caused it to keep the car on full throttle?? i really have no idea how these things work so im probably miles off whats actually wrong.
good luck!

Unlucky mate, unfortunately nitro models are not waterproof unless its been made/upgraded to waterproof or if its a waterproof model, your engine can handle quite a bit of water, but the electrics cant. Do you have a failsafe fitted?
If you dont have one, get one mate.
If you do have one, most failsafes tend to be waterproof so i dont think it would be that, but it could be, it could be most likely be down to your servo or receiver getting too wet. Some electrics do work again after drying out and some do die, but its down to how badly they got wet and a bit of luck.
Best thing for you to do is, take your electrics out of the model, (and take them apart if you can) and dry them out in a warm place, airing cupboard or tail-rail, anywhere that has a bit of heat, (but not too hot) leave them to dry and try them again in a good few hours later or the next day.
hopefully there work again mate, but if not when you get the new ones buy waterproof ones or some plasti-dip.

Ahh right, thanks alot marc! I really really hope they will dry out and work! lol. but i will invest in some of that waterproofing stuff!
but i've taken all the electrics apart and left them in my room, sadly i don't have an airing cuboard or anything anymore now we've had this new plumbing fitted! lol.
Thank again though mate!

High mate, let it all dry out. especially the reciever . then connect it all and check it. it is possible that you have shorted out the Servo. i deffo recomend you water proof it. i use Plastidip. Buy it in paint form. you remove your servos and with some wet and dry paper ruff up the sides. this will make the the plastidip stick better. Also when finished ruffing up, give them a wipe over with nail varnish remover or meths. to remove any grease residue from where you handle it. Then paint them. give them several thin coats. it dries quickly.
its good stuff

the reciever place inside a small bag and tie clip it up before putting in the radio box. you can poke the antenna wire out through a pin hole.
And this is proof it works...

Bloodyhell Ianski! :-O Thats amazing! lol.. As if you drove it into a river! lol..
Got all my electrics working now, thank god! :D
But now i've found another problem  When i try turning my fly wheel it gets so far and then all i hear is a metal clicking sound, both ways, it will turn for about a full turn or so before it clicks though! Does this mean my engine has blown or there is something come loose or what? my engine was running on full bore for about 20 seconds when it was on its roof so..
Its a picco .21 race engine, just incase you need to know!
Thanks again guys! :-)

Might be worth you taken the engine from the chassis and taking the Bell housing of and checking the clutches. and the bearings, if okay take the back plate of. Check for any signs of metal fillings or debris in the crank case. if okay, take the head of and inspect the piston sleave.
Sprakie2008 - August 26, 2010 06:02 PM (GMT)
Cheers ian! :-)
I did this last night, and basically its knackered :-( My conrod is in thousands of tiny pieces and the liner is scraped to hell :-(
another thing is, because its a picco, its cheaper to buy a new engine than order the parts from america so.. :/
ianski68 - August 26, 2010 06:13 PM (GMT)
even if you could get the parts from here in the UK, it still probably would not be worth it. Piston and liners can be expensive. and you need a con rod etc etc. aloso you would probably want to change the bearings ...so a new engine would be best...when you look for a new engine set a budget and see whats available. you can get some budget race engines that are pretty good. i have a Go21 race . its a 4 port and basic but its pretty quick and very reliable. its what is fitted to my Buggy that is in the water. i thrash the nuts out of it, bash it run it till its glowing but its still going good.

I loved the look of that one! The problem is, my budget is only like £70, and i needed to replace alot of the clutch aswell, which means i went for this one:
http://www.apexmodels.com/gbu0-prodshow/R2100-M100SG.htmlIt should do the job for what i want from it! :-) Just the hassle of running the thing in is gonna take some time, and waste some fuel, but what you gonna do? ha!
Thanks alot though man! You've been a real help! :-)
ianski68 - August 26, 2010 07:08 PM (GMT)
Thats fine mate. at least it will get you up and running again.. whats up with the clutch ?
Sprakie2008 - August 26, 2010 07:52 PM (GMT)
Just some of the bearings have fallen apart and my shoes are fairly warn. Ordered some new bearings already, gonna see if the shoes last for now :-) Just can get the bloody things off! :-(

does it have the 3 shoe clutch system? they can be a pain, there is a clutch removal and instal tool. its worth getting one in the future. makes life so much easier. Also when putting the bell back on. make sure you shim it so it fits properly. want to iliminate as much movement on the shaft. and fits flush at the end.
Sprakie2008 - August 27, 2010 11:09 AM (GMT)
Yeah it is, they really are a pain! Especially when if you want to buy a new set they come in pairs :-S
But i've been looking at one of those tools, they do deffinatly look like they're worth their money. I think my mates got one actually, i'll have to see!
But ahh, thanks for the tip mate! I'll have to look into all this wen my new engine arrives! :D
Cheers!

when you buy a new clutch kit it should have the 3 shoes in the packet, not a pair? if this is the case you hasve the wrong part..lol.
the tools are about £5 and are deffo worth it

@Sprakie2008, which clutch system are you running? I only ask because the losi clutch is 4 shoes and their held in with pins so you wouldn't need a clutch tool. I use these on both buggy(novarossi) and truggy(picco) and they work fine

Your car is a losi 8ight 2.0?
ianski68 - August 27, 2010 11:56 AM (GMT)
ianski68 - August 27, 2010 11:59 AM (GMT)
if you get them from Bolton Model mart you will not get charged postage. You will have to call them. there web site is having Maintanance done so its down.
jhn68 - August 27, 2010 11:59 AM (GMT)
I'm running a losi buggy and a truggy and both have the losi flywheel, the truggy has the steel option the buggy has and ali version. Easier to work with. the link for the shoes you posted i'm pretty sure are primarily for the losi flywheel as they are smaller than the current ones on your 3 shoe setup.
If you do plan to change to a losi flywheel i would go with the steel version.
Sprakie2008 - August 27, 2010 12:07 PM (GMT)
Cheers guys!
Just wondering though, is it worth changing them or are they still good enough to last me till i get a big pay slip? lol.
I'm not planning on changing the flywheel because even though that one is worn down and looking a bit tatty, it doesn't do much to the wheel on my starter box if it get jammed like it used to do so...
ianski68 - August 27, 2010 12:10 PM (GMT)
replace them now, they are deffo worn. also they can cause much easier at this stage...
