does anyone know what the general quality of Casters parts are like?
and who supplies parts?

Ritchie T - January 13, 2010 11:22 PM (GMT)
If this is the 'factory pro' kit they have on their site its still only coming in at £260...

Have 3 Caster 1.5s now, Mine and my 2 sons and have done alot of race meetings, the cars have been great, only had a couple of issues with screws coming loose on the steering hockey sticks but that was down to me not lock tighting them, I have broke the front arm twice due to impacts, the front post needs modding to move it further back or else the shells break too easily as they are too close to the edge at present. I would recommend these buggies to anyone.
I get my spares from Andy Taylor or his son Lee, he is just setting up a shop in Kidderminster at present
www.severndalerc.co.uk/
He can also supply Caster spares.

Thats a question I asked......lol
A few points that might interest you all.
When Caster came out Jon Hazelwood looked at running one but after close inspection decided the quality was not up to scratch......a fair comment then but this was a long time ago.
His comments and those of others who tested them have been taken into account and Mikey (from the caster factory) started listening and altering plastics etc.
When Lee started to drive for Caster we noticed a few things immediately BUT found the factory had most of them in hand. From new style and type of lexan bodies to new arms and plastics they altered them all until they got things bang on.
To this day the car has constantly been refined so much so that I like the product so much that I decided to open a shop (unlike the razor guy who purchased the company lol.)
The distributer Pete from Answer RC has a philosophy of only supply good quality gear at reasonable/cheap prices and I can get anything he has in stock next day.
Lee had his best ever result at Neo 09 with a Caster 1.5 and placed the car straight into the semi finals at the European champion ships in Gland , Switzerland during 09.
(was also quickest in the semi warmups against David Ronnefalk)
Rest assured the car is good.
I have been in the process of starting a shop both online/from my retail unit/and trackside but personal issues slowed this process down. From there I will be selling Caster and Answer products, plus selling engines/repairing engines/replacing bearings/pinching , supplying things like nuts and bolts that dont strip and decals and graphics, custom T shirts etc.
BUT
At the same time Lee is now working for a Motor Trader (parts)[trading since 1978] who also has a keen interest in RC products having bashed and raced them on and off for years. This work involved setting up an RC section and ensuring his 11 years experience racing RC cars through from Touring cars to 1/5th Marders, more recently 1/8th rallycross at European level is put to good use.
Lee has for the past year been working on full size car conversions for drag strips such as red top corsa's and 2.0 litres engines in minis, but still realises that for most people RC is the closest they will get to the adrenaline of racing and he wants to provide value for money service to severndalerc customers...all customers start with a 7% discount.
If you wish to look at the cars then Kevin Howell and his two sons run them at Frankley, a track notoriously hard on cars, but have noticed an immediate improvements in reliability and results.
So if you are concerned about spares for Caster/Answer RC products please dont be........you will be well support where ever you come from.

Thats very interesting Hmmmm, can i ask a few questions Andy :
Am i correct in saying that they do a RTR and a Pro Roller version?
Do you know if there quality is the asame acrtoss the range?
In the RTR version what are the engines like?
Are they kit form?
sorry for the questions but you seem to know your stuff and i dont :D
kevinjh - January 14, 2010 03:53 PM (GMT)
Pro roller comes in kit form, had no problems with assembling 2 of them apart from setting the track width on the PBS, after speaking to Andy I got it sorted fine,
RTR comes pre-built, did the normal oil replacement in the shocks and diffs to start from a known set up with my sons car, he has run it for 2 race meetings now with no problems.
If any body gets one then PM me and I can tell you some mods that have been made to give incredible steering, Mods were recommended on the Caster USA web site.
Had the rollers 6 months ago and the RTR at Christmas, there are a couple of differences between them but this is due to upgrades Caster have made rather that to make them different.
Got to say fair play to Caster, they listen to feedback given to them from races and forum members and are constantly improving the buggy, you dont get that from all manufacturers.

Forgot to mention, Cant comment on the engine as I took the engine out GO sport with pull start and replaced with a GO 3 port race engine as I use starter boxes as a norm after getting frustrated with repairing/replacing pull starts on my old engines.

Kevin has answered most of your questions already so I wont add much.
The quality is the same across the range and has been improving over time.
The engine in then RTR is only a pull start and for racing it wont be a power house but as a starter car its fantastic value for money.
The RTR is pre built but the race roller comes in kit form NOW., it used to come pre built but with dry diffs. . Most customers asked for the PRO in kit form so they responded................positively!
